3 Basic Flash Game Source Files For Beginners

Starting out in Flash can be a tough undertaking, especially for the fresh faced game maker, but any experienced developer will tell you that they started from the bottom of the ladder and worked their way up gradually. So, in this post, I will give free fla files to those people that are new to the world of Flash gaming so they can learn to create 3 very different games and aid in their progress to bigger and better things.

Mouse Avoider

I’m going to kick things off with a genré which is highly popular amongst newcomers of Flash, namely the ‘Mouse Avoider’ series of games. These are, as the name suggests, games which require the player to avoid all obstacles while controlling something with the mouse. There are a few twists you can put in your game such as reversed controls, time limits, moving obstacles and wild control to name a few. Feel free to add to your game as and when you learn these skills but try not to confuse yourself until you’re ready to move onto adding new features. However, you must always make sure you have a good framerate on your Flash document. Something around 60 is good.

Pros:

  • Easy to make and can be entertaining for friends and family.
  • Many possible twists and new features can be thought up and included with relative ease.

Cons:

  • Many crude examples out there with poor framerate.
  • Laregly overdone due to it’s simplicity.
  • Can be cheated easily if not made correctly!

Dress Up

Our second game for beginners is the dress up game. This relies heavily on graphics and can be slightly boring for those using it, however it is a good place to  start (and dress up games targeting a certain audience are getting sponsored on a daily basis).

Pros:

  • Can be fun to make.
  • Make your favourite celebrities wear wacky and insane clothing.

Cons:

  • You must be a good artist to make it worth the player’s while.
  • Can get boring quickly for the player.

Quiz

Quiz games can be fun if you offer a reward in the form of a picture or a fact for correct answers; you can even use variables to count how many wrong or right answers there have been and display a message specific to that amount.

Pros:

  • Allows you to stretch the brain muscle a little when thinking up questions.
  • Can make you feel rather clever!

Cons:

  • A game like this would need some nice music to detract from the blandness.
  • Can get boring quickly for the player.

I hope you can take something away from this, the codes are pretty straight forward and don’t really need explaining if you look at them logically. However if you have any trouble or questions, please just post it here and I’ll help you out as much as I can.
