My latest game, ‘farmBee‘ (created with JunkyardSam), was greeted by the players of Newgrounds at a fairly succesful score for a game with a gameplay mechanic relatively simple when compared to it’s blockbuster counterparts. The game reached about 3.55 to 3.65, and drifted between the two. Kongregate users swiftly found the game to be average, and the game has settled at a score of 2.67 out of 5. There seems to be be no middle ground with the game – it’s been hailed as anything from “annoying” to a few reviews that I’ve read claiming it’s “the best game ever made”. While I can’t agree with either stand point (but am flattered by the latter), I am proud of how the game turned out and thankfully it seems the masses have enjoyed it too. This is where MochiBot has proven itself to be an invaluable tool when it comes to judging the success of your game. (Find the farmBee mochibot link at the bottom of this post.)

In regards to the merits and achievements I mentioned earlier, something interesting came to be from the inclusion of Newgrounds’ in-house medal system. After they had been integrated into the game and it was placed on the frontpage of the website, the score gradually increased in value. There were two initial reasons I had in mind for why this happened – the first being that the game had been brought to the attention of the site’s daily users thanks to it’s frontpage linkage, and it was hitting a chord with the casual players. The second, which is more obvious (and indeed easier to attribute the rise in score to) was the medals. This has been cemented in my theory that if you give a player something for their efforts – and let them know that once they close the game other people can see they’ve excelled and overcome a challenge in a game which may even be difficult to achieve – a certain amount of kudos is gained and the player takes something away from it.

If I may use an analogy, I could compare this to a situation rather like seeing a promotional drinks stall giving away samples of their products for a moment of your time. Even if you don’t agree to answering questions or filling in small questionnaires, the chances are, that if you took away a physical product from the people punting their wares, that you will remember them for it. The next time you see the same product being sold on the shelf in a store you will subconsciously think about the time where you had been given that product for free and it will immediately stick out and win favour amongst the other products you see. I believe that if you give players something, even if it’s a disposable and time limited reward, it will still do something towards gaining their approval and making them content with what’s being offered to them at that moment. After all, it’s free, and everyone loves free stuff!

In other news…!

Fans of the Gun Game who also have an iPhone or iPod touch can get finally get to grips with the touchy touchy version. It’s being ported to the popular format by a reputable studio and you can sign up for an instant update on when the game is available on the iTunes app store at The Gun Game App’s homepage. The page will be updated in time but make sure you get your name down for that as soon as possible! All you need to enter is your email address only!

Working on another new game with JunkyardSam right now, but for now why not check out the mochiBot stats for farmBee? If you’ve not played it yet, give it a buzz! And if you have played it but haven’t unlocked the Newgrounds medals, make sure you head on over there and grabs yours!

In my latest Gun Game 2 video, I suggested that the next one I upload will be gameplay footage. How sure of this being delivered anytime soon I’m not sure of, but definately keep your eyes peeled on my YouTube account (make sure you subscribe) and you’ll be notified right away when the next video comes online. There will definately still be Gun Game 2 development videos, I just don’t think gameplay should be the next one as it’s not 100% complete yet.

So let’s get down to it. We’ve added two more guns to the roster, and they’re the two most demanded weapons since I started to gather up feedback on what guns YOU would like to see. So here they are:

If you’d like to suggest a weapon please post on in the comments section below, and if it gets a fair amount of votes I’ll try and squeeze it into the game! On another note, Plumpman has added in the coolest save system ever. I forgot to mention that in my previous post, but there’s actually 3 available save slots like in Zelda, and now Plumpman has streamlined the system and even included a sweet autosave system. You can also save your progress from your profile screen.

Here’s a few free downloads for you guys until the next big update. There’s two wallpapers, one light and one dark for your desktop and your iPhone. Currently I only have the desktop wallpapers in 1440 x 900 resolution but if there’s enough demand for another size hit me up and i’ll get on it straight away. Just right click and ‘Save As…’ to download the file.

Find out everything about the sequel to 2009’s breakthrough hit, The Gun Game.

Hey everyone!

Some exciting news here if you’re a fan of ‘The Gun Game’. Both myself and Plumpman have been working on a sequel of epic proportions!

We’ll still fairly deep into the development stage right now but I’ll do my best to outline the most exciting new features as well as talk about how you can get your very own poster design into the game!

We listened to everyone’s opinions, comments and reviews, and although we couldn’t reply to every review, we did do our best to read as many as we could and we thank you for your input. So here’s where we’re at right now. (Please remember things are subject to change, i.e the inclusion of more guns etc.):

- NEW! Avatar Creation – Customise your character’s appearance, and choose between male and female sexes.

- NEW! Personal Profile – Name your avatar and keep track of your experience points, perks and stats in the new profile screen.

- NEW! Experience and Perks system – Earn experience by carrying out jobs for Fat Bob and unlock special perks to help you make mince meat out of the new destructible objects. Perks are unlocked when you reach certain levels in your Gun Game career.

- NEW! Fat Bob’s – Visit gun-nut Fat Bob’s shop and check out a gun’s appearance, price and vital statistics before buying it. Check out the ‘Jobs’ tab and accept missions from 3 difficulty levels; Rookie, Veteran and Elite, as well as numerous creative puzzle challenges.

- NEW! In Depth Tutorial – Learn the game inside out by playing it under the supervision of brand new character Fat Bob; your very own gun and job-giving extraordinaire. Various tooltips appear throughout the game when you explore previously untouched options.

- NEW! Money System – Spend your hard earnt cash on a larger range of bigger, better guns.

- NEW! Weapon Upgrade system – Save up enough money and buy awesome upgrades for all of your guns including silencers, reflex scopes, extended magazine attachments and loads more. And yes, we didn’t forget the grenade launcher

- NEW! Gun Categories – The regular pistol, SMG and Shotgun categories make a return alongside all new Light Machine guns and vastly improved Assault Rifles.

- NEW! Improved Graphics – From your trigger finger to the exploding objects; everything looks and feels better and smoother.

- NEW! Merits System – Experience the internal fuzz of hapiness as you clock up another of the game’s great merits, all represented by personal icons and accompanying merit screen to check up on your progress.

- NEW! General Improvements – A new options screen allows you to adjust how many on-screen objects are displayed, the graphical quailty, screen brightness, cursor colour, sound effect volume and music volume level, whilst in-game we’ve provided the elusive reload button.

- NEW! Amazing Custom Soundtrack – Created by my fellow bandmate and Captain Crash music pimp Morgan King, The Gun Game 2 will feature all new tracks with biblically epic proportions.

I can’t at this moment confirm how many weapons the game will feature as I’m still making them, but I can tell you some of the ones that are included! I’ve even designed some of my own this time around.

Pistols:

- H&K P30
- P22
- Walther P9

SMG’s:

- Razor SI (Custom)
- H&K mp40
- SMG PK
- Ingram Mac 10
- H&K mp7
- Tommy Gun

Assault Rifles:

- NATO FL SCAR-N
- H&K G36c Compact

Light Machine Guns:

- M249 Saw

Unfortunately thats all I can reveal right now, but there will be more weapons including yet to be confirmed shotguns. Remember that all these guns are also fully upgradable, so it should keep us all going for a while!

Moving onto the perks. As you progress through the game you will unlock new abilities that you can equip, and when used in conjuction with an upgraded gun, nothing can stop you!

Perks:

- Steady Hands: Eliminates gun recoil.
- Eagle Eye: Greatly increases shooting accuracy.
- Bullet Time: Slows everything down so you can react faster!
- Exploding Bullets: Deal more damage by making your bullets explode on impact.
- Double Bullets: Shoot two bullets with one pull of the trigger.
- Experience and Cash Multiplier: Earns you more money and experience if you complete a level with this perk equipped.

Now here is the part where YOU can get involved!

Scattered throughout the game are all kinds of posters featuring designs of inside jokes and Gun Game 1 refferences. They all add up to make part of a merit that players can unlock. I thought I’d give artists the chance to get their handy-work in the game by making the poster a community activity.

I’ve uploaded an .fla template of the poster in Flash 8 format so anyone with Flash version 8 and upwards can open the file. All you have to do is leave the locked layers as they are, and draw your design on the ‘BG’ layer. Feel free to add other layers above the ‘BG’ one, as long as you leave the others how they are.

You can refference anything, but please don’t make it rude. You can enter as many designs as you like and I’ll pick a few winners to put them in the game.
